Introductie
In elke garderobe hoort natuurlijk een t-shirt. Ons basis t-shirt heeft een fijne pasvorm en heel veel extra's. Je kunt kiezen uit een aangsloten model of een iets lossere fit. Er zijn  twee halsopties, 3 mouwlengtes en je kunt behalve een zoom ook kiezen voor een korte lengte afgewerkt met een band (voor als je geen lang shirt in broek of rok wilt dragen). Je krijgt bij dit patroon behalve de gratis werkbeschrijving ook een retro bloem print ontwerp die je kunt zeefdrukken of plotten. Gebruik voor dit t-shirt een katoen /elasthane single jersey .

Introduction
Of course, every wardrobe should have a t-shirt. Our basic t-shirt has a great fit and lots of extras. You can choose from a fitted style or a slightly looser fit. There are two neck options, 3 sleeve lengths and in addition to a hem, you can also opt for a short length finished with a band (for when you don't want to wear a long shirt in trousers or a skirt). In addition to the free tutorial, this pattern also includes a retro flower print design that you can screen print or plot. Use a cotton / elasthane single jersey fabric for this t-shirt.

Preparation

Bij aankoop van een van onze patronen ontvangt u 3 PDF-bestanden: een voor thuisprinters om op A4-papier af te drukken, een tweede voor A0-gebruikers om af te drukken in een printshop en een derde is voor mensen die een overheadprojector gebruiken. De volgende algemene introductietekst geeft een overzicht van hoe onze patroon-pdf's zijn opgezet en legt uit hoe je de A4-versie kunt afdrukken en hoe je de pagina's aan elkaar kunt plakken. A0-gebruikers kunnen bij hun printshop aangeven welke pagina's ze nodig hebben. Op de projector bestanden staan alle panden in dezelfde richting.
On purchasing any of our patterns you will receive 3 PDF files: one for home printers to print on A4 paper, a second at A0 is for printshop users and a third is for sewers who use an overhead projector. The following general introduction text provides an overview of how our pattern pdfs are set up and explains how to print out the A4 version and how to stick the pages together. A0 users should simply instruct their printshop which pages they require. Projector users will note that all pieces have the grain direction facing the same way.

Als je thuis print op een A4-printer, drukt u op het afdrukpictogram in het bovenste menu van de PDF. Uw afdrukdialoogvenster kan hiervan verschillen  (rechts in het midden weergegeven), maar ik heb een paar knoppen gemarkeerd om het te verduidelijken. Om inkt te besparen kun je instellen dat het patroon in grijstinten wordt afgedrukt. Selecteer de pagina's die je wilt afdrukken, over het algemeen vanaf pagina 7 tot de laatste pagina. Zorg ervoor dat de schaal is ingesteld op 'ware grootte' of '100%' - NOOIT op 'passend op pagina'. Het werkelijke paginaformaat van de PDF is kleiner dan A4. Stel de oriëntatie in op Auto, ik vind dat dit het beste werkt omdat het dan de pdf op een A4-blad centreert.
If printing at home on an A4 printer press the print icon in the top menu of the PDF. Your print dialogue box may vary to this one (shown middle right), but I have highlighted a few buttons to take note of. To save ink you can set to print the pattern in greyscale. Select the pages to print which will usually be from page 7 until the final page. Make sure the scale is set to 'actual size' or ‘100%' - NEVER to 'fit to page’. The actual page size of the PDF is smaller than A4. Set the orientation to Auto, I find this works best as it will then centre the pdf on an A4 sheet.

Rond elke pagina zie je kleine zwarte driehoekjes met letters erin. Around each page you will see small black triangles with letters inside. With scissors and clear sticky tape at hand, you can then cut out every alternate page to the triangles and then align the letters in the black triangles with the matching ones on the following page (A to A, B to B, etc). You can then proceed to stick the sheet together. One sheet can consist of 16 or 20 pages depending on the pattern purchased. Some patterns consist of one full sheet (eg. skirts with 16 pages), some of two sheets (eg. dresses with 32 pages).

Once you have printed out your pages lay them out on a flat surface (top left). Cut out to the triangle edge on alternate pages (top right). Then with clear sticky tape connect the triangles that correspond to each other (bottom left). Then cut out your pattern piece to the dashed lines (bottom right). These dashed lines include the necessary seam allowance for each piece. The thinner dotted lines indicate the finished size. For convenience all names of pieces, along with grain direction and helpful instructions have been placed inside individual pattern pieces, so you can safely throw away (please recycle) the excess paper. Note some patterns may also include an explanatory diagram on one of the pages that should also be kept. 
To continue trace all the pattern pieces onto pattern paper, remembering to copy all the markings (eg. darts, piece to piece alignment lines etc).

Goed om te weten
Ik ga in deze werkbeschrijving uit van het gebruik van een overlock machine. Mocht je daar niet over beschikken dan kun je een zig-zag steek gebruiken op een gewone naaimachine. Ik raad dan wel aan om er altijd een stretch stiksel naast te plaatsen. De naadtoeslag van de patronen is 1cm. Check wat de breedte instelling van je naad is op je lockmachine is. Is het 0,7cm dan kun je tijdens het stikken 3mm wegsnijden. De stretchnaden stik je met een stretchsteek instelling op de gewone naaimachine.

​Good to know
For this tutorial an overlock machine was being used for sewing most of the garment. However, it is possible to use a regular sewing machine and sew with a zigzag stitch. I do recommend sewing an extra stretch stitch next to it to create clean lines. The seam allowance of the patterns is 1cm. Check the seam width setting of your overlock machine. If it is 0.7cm you can cut away 3mm while sewing. The stretch seams can be sewn using the stretch setting on a regular sewing machine.

Schoudernaden en halsbies

3a.

Werk de schoudernaden af met overlock of zigzag. Speld de schoudernaad.
Finish the edges with overlock or zigzag. Pin the shoulder seams.

Stik de schoudernaden met een stretch steek en strijk de naden open.
Sew the shoulderseams with a stretch stitch and iron them open.

3d.
De hals afwerking bestaat uit een aparte voor- en achter halsbies. De biezen zijn op de schouder schuin van vorm en liggen daardoor platter tegen de hals. Je hoeft de bies daardoor ook minder uit te rekken wat een gladder resultaat geeft. Speld en stik de halsbies delen met de goede kanten op elkaar. Speld ook de mouwbiezen dicht.
The neck band consists of a separate front and back neckband. The bands are cut at an angle so the band will sit flatter against the neck. You do not have to stretch the band as much, which gives a smoother result. Pin and stitch the neckbands right sides together. Also pin the ends of sleevebands.

3e.
Stik met een stretch op 1 cm van de kant tot de speld in het midden en laat de naald in de stof zitten.
Sew with a stretch stitch on 1 cm from the edge up to the pin and leave the needle in the fabric.

3f.
Draai de bies een slag en naai verder.
Turn the band and continue to sew.

3g.
Knip in het midden een hoekje weg en pers de naden open. Vouw de halsbies om in de breedte.
Cut away a triangle of access fabric in the middle. Press the seams open. Fold the neckband over widthwise.

3h.
Sluit ook meteen de mouwbiezen op deze manier.
Also close the sleeve bands in this way.

3k.
Stik de 2 lagen van de dubbelgevouwen halsbies op elkaar op 0.5cm van de rand. Zo kan de bies niet verschuiven.
Sew the 2 layers of the folded neckband together on 0.5cm from the edge. This way both layers stay in place.

3l.
Plaats een speld in het midden van de voor-en achter hals en in het midden van de voor-en achter halsbies.
Place a pin in the middle of the front and back neck and one in the middle of the front and back neckband.

3m.
Speld eerst het midden van de voor-en achter hals tegen het midden van de voor-en achter halsbies. Daarna speld je de zijnaden van de halsbies tegen de schoudernaden. Daarna speld je de tussenliggende delen.
First pin the middle of the front and back neck to the middle of the front and back neckband. Then pin the sideseams of the neckband to the shoulder seams. Finally, pin the area inbetween.

3n.
Stik de halsbiezen langs de hals met een normale steek setting op je naaimachine. Met een naaimachine kun je veel makkelijker sturen en netjes het stukje halsbies rond de schouder naaien.
Sew the neckbands along the neck with a regular stitch setting on your sewing machine. With a sewingmachine it is easier to guide along the neck especially the area around the shoulder.

3o.
Nu kunje de naden afwerken met overlock of zig-zag. Stik over het gewone stiksel heen. Stel je lockmachine in op breedte 0,5cm en snijd dus 0,5cm weg.
Now you can finish the edges with overlock or zig-zag. Sew over the excisting stitchline. Set the stitch width on 0,5cm. You will need to cut away 0,5cm.

3p.
Voor een mooie halsafwerking kun je de achterhals naad afbiezen. Speld hiervoor het biesje met de goede kant tegen de achterhals naad. De uiteinden vouw je in. Stik deze vast aan de bieskant met een gewone steek over het overlock stiksel (dus de kant waar de spelden zitten op de foto).
For a neat neck finish you can sew binding over the back neck seam. To do this, pin the binding strip right side against the back neck seam. Fold the ends in. Sew this on the binding side with a regular stitch over the overlock stitching (so the side where the pins are in the picture).

3q.
Vouw de bies om de achterhals naad heen en speld vast.
Fold the binding around the back neck seam and pin.

3r.
Stik de bies vast met een gewone steek.
Sew the binding with a regular stitch.

3s.
Pers de hals plat en stik de hals desgewenst door op 0,5cm van de rand.
Press the neck and topstitch if desired on 0,5cm from the edge.

3t.
Waarschijnlijk is het stiksel van de achterhals iets breder dan voor. Dit is niet erg, bij confectie shirts zie je dit ook vaak.
Probably the stitching on the back neck is slightly wider than the front. This is not bad, you often see this with ready-to-wear shirts.

Diepe Nek / Scoop neck

3u.
De diepe hals maak je op dezelfde manier als de ronde hals. Begin altijd met spelden vanuit het midden van zowel hals als halsbies.
The scoop neck is made in the same way as the round neck. Make sure you start pinning from the middle of both neck as neckband.

3v.
Spelden.
Pinning.

3w.
Eerst naaien met een gewone steek.
First sewing with a regular stitch.

Mouwen, zijnaden en zoomopties

Speld de mouwen in de armsgaten. Maak hierbij gebruik van de kniptekens op het patroon.
Pin the sleeves into the armholes. Use the marks on the paper pattern.

4b.
Stik met de overlockmachine nog steeds op steekbreedte 0,5cm.
Sew with the overlockmachine, still on width 0,5cm.

4c.
Met behulp van een mouwplankje en een vochtige doek pers je de mouwkop. De naad wijst richting de mouw.
Using a sleeve board and a damp cloth, press the sleeve head. The seam points towards the sleeve.

4d.
Zet de steekbreedte weer terug op de breedste stand. Speld en stik met een overlocksteek in één keer de onderarmnaad en zijnaad.
Adjust the stitch width to the widest setting. Pin and sew with an overlock stitch all the way from sleeve opening to bottom.

4e.
Laat hierbij de naad van het voorpand naar boven wijzen, en van het achterpand naar onder. Zo krijg je niet 2 naden op elkaar.
Make sure the seam of the front points upwards, the seam of the back points downwards. This way you don’t get 2 seams on top of each other.

4f.
Als je een shirt maakt met een zoom (lange lengte): Zet op 2cm een knipje in de zijnaad. Vouw één helft van de naad naar binnen en éen naar buiten.
When you make a shirt with a hem (longer length): Cut in the sideseam 2cm from the bottom. Fold one half to the inside and one half to the back.

4g.
Speld 2cm zoom af. Spelden aan de buitenkant.
Pin a 2cm hem. Pins go on the outside.

4h.
Naai de zoom met een coverlock of tweelingnaald in je naaimachine aan de buitenkant van het shirt.
Sew the hem with a coverlock stitch or a twin needle on your sewing machine on the outside of your shirt.

4i.
Binnen en buitenkant van de zoom.
Inside and outside of the hem.

4j.
Geef met een speld het midden van de mouw en het midden van de mouwbies aan.
Mark the middle of the sleeve and the middle of the sleeve band with a pin.

4k.
Speld deze punten met de goede kanten aan elkaar. Speld daarna de naad van de bies tegen de naad van de mouw en speld dan de tussenliggende ruimte. Zet de mouwbiezen aan met de overlockmachine.

Speld daarna de zijnaden van shirt en band tegen elkaar en vervolgens de ruimte ertussen. Zet de band aan met de overlockmachine.
Place a pin in the center of the front and back of the waistband. Also put a pin in the middle of the bottom of the front and back piece. Pin these points right sides together first. Then pin the side seams of shirt and band together and then the space in between them. Sew on the band with the overlock machine.

6g.
Geef met een speld het midden van de mouw en het midden van de mouwbies aan.
Mark the middle of the sleeve and the middle of the sleeve band with a pin.

6h.
Speld deze punten met de goede kanten aan elkaar. Speld daarna de naad van de bies tegen de naad van de mouw en speld dan de tussenliggende ruimte. Zet de mouwbiezen aan met de overlockmachine.
Pin these points right sides together. Then pin the seam of the band to the seam of the sleeve and then pin the space in between. Sew on the sleevebands with the overlock machine.

Eventueel kun je de mouw boven de bies doorstikken op 0,5cm langs de kant.

Bloem retro ontwerp zeefdrukken

7a.
Dit patroon bevat een bloem ontwerp in 3 lagen geschikt voor (sjabloon) zeefdrukken en snijplotten.
Je krijgt vector bestanden (EPS, SVG en PDF). Voor dit ontwerp hebben we ook 4 kleur opties toegevoegd.
This pattern comes with 3 template layers for stencil silkscreen printing or for a silhouette cameo plotter.
We supply vector files (EPS, SVG en PDF). For this design we have also included 4 different colour variations.

Ik leg hieronder uit hoe je het ontwerp op een eenvoudige manier met papieren sjablonen kunt zeefdrukken in 3 kleuren.
Here I will explain how to make a simple 3 colour silkscreen print using cutout paper stencils.

Om de bloem te zeefdrukken heb je nodig:
- Watervast papier speciaal bedoelt om mee te zeefdrukken (o.a. te koop bij Bobbinhood)
- Een scalpel mes of breekmesje
- Textiel inkt speciaal bedoelt voor zeefdrukken.
- Een zeefdruk raam voor textiel
- Een rakel
- Plakband of tape
To screen print the flower you will need:
- Waterproof paper specially intended for screen printing (a.o. for sale at Bobbinhood)
- A scalpel blade or utility knife
- Textile ink specially intended for screen printing.
- A screen printing window for textiles
- A squeegee
- Adhesive tape or cellotape

Print de bestanden uit en plak de eerste met een stukje plakband vast aan je sjabloon papier om verschuiven te voorkomen.
Print out the templates and stick the the first one on top of your stencil paper with cello tape to avoid shifting.

7b.
Snijd voorzichtig en precies de zwarte vormen uit en bewaar de binnenvormen.
Cut the solid shapes out very meticulously and keep the inside shapes.

7c.
Plaats het uitgesneden sjabloon op de stof en leg de bewaarde binnenvormen er in.
Place the cut out stencil on the fabric and put the inside shapes you've kept inside them.

7d.
Plaats het raam op de stof, eventueel langs de randen afplakken om doorlopen te voorkomen. Verdeel wat verf op het raam boven de te drukken vorm. Trek de rakel met enige druk met de inkt naar je toe. Herhaal maar dan van je af. Daarna nog een maal omhoog.
Spread some paint on the window above the to be printed shape. Pull the squeegee towards you with some pressure with the ink. Then repeat away from you and again downwards. Place the screen on the fabric If necessary, mask along the edges to prevent bleeding.

7e.
De eerste laag is geprint.
The first layer is printed.

7f.
Laat even drogen (of föhn droog) en strijk om te fixeren. Snijd het 2e sjabloon uit en bewaar opnieuw de binnenvormen. Plaats dit sjabloon op de print.
Leave to dry (or blow dry) and iron to fix. Cut out the 2nd template and again keep the inside shapes. Place this template on top of the print.

7g.
Bedek alle delen die je zojuist geprint hebt.
Cover all the areas you've just printed.

7h.
Herhaal het print proces. Je zult zien dat het nooit helemaal aansluit maar ik vind dat de charme van handwerk.
Repeat printing process. You will see there will always be some areas that are a bit off. I think that is the charm of handprinting.

7i.
Nu nog sjabloon nummer 3 uitsnijden en printen voor de donkere details.
All that is left is cutting out and printing template nr.3 for the dark details.

Bonus: het afwerken van de hals en mouwen
met doorgestikte bies
Bonus: finishing the neck and sleeves with a topstitched band

8a.
Voor deze afwerking heb je geen coverlock met bandgeleider nodig, alleen een tweelingnaald en een extra klosje garen. Knip een bies die 80% van de afmeting heeft die je wilt afwerken van 5cm hoogte. Stik de band dicht en vouw/strijk 1cm om.
For this finish you don't need a coverlock with tape binder, just a twin needle and an extra bobbin of yarn. Cut a strip of fabric that is 80% of the width of the area that is going to be finished and 5cm high. Close the band and fold/ iron over 1cm.

8b.
Speld en stik de bies langs de hals met een stretch steek/stretch garen op de naaimachine of de overlockmachine.
Pin and sew the band around the neck with a stretch stitch/stretch yarn on the sewing machine or the overlockmachine.

8c.
Vouw de bies nu naar binnen.
Fold the band towards the inside.

8d.
Precies tot aan de naad.
Precisely up to the seam.

8e.
En speld in de naad vast zodanig dat de speld net het randje pakt aan de binnenkant.
And pin into the seam making sure the pin just catches the edge of the band on the inside.

8f.
Voor je gaat doorstikken met de tweelingnaald zal waarschijnlijk de spanning moeten worden aangepast van het bovengaren en/of het spoeltje. Draai deze zonodig naar een lossere stand.
Before topstitching with the twin needle the tension of the top and or bottom bobbin might have to be loosened. If needed adjust.

8g.
Stik de bies door langs de rand.
Topstitch the band on the edge.

8h.
Het resultaat na het doorstikken. Het stiksel is rekbaar, aan de binnenkant is een zigzag stiksel zichtbaar.
The result after topstitching. The stitching is stretchy, on the inside you can see a zigzag stitch.
