Uitlopende Rok

Introductie:
Een fijne zwierige rok mag niet ontbreken in je garderobe. Deze kun je maken in een nèt over de knielengte of als een maxirok. De flare rok heeft fijne steekzakken en je maakt 'm af met een drawstring of ceintuurtje. Elke soort tricot is geschikt voor dit model maar voor de maxi versie kun je het best kiezen voor een wat lichtere katoen tricot of een viscose tricot. De rok is heerlijk zwierig en lekker snel gemaakt!

Introduction:
A flared skirt should be an essential item in your wardrobe. You can make these at just over the knee length or as a maxi skirt. Our flared skirt has inset side pockets and you finish it off with a drawstring or belt. All kinds of jersey are suitable for this model, but for the maxi version it’s best to choose a slightly lighter cotton jersey or viscose jersey. This skirt design falls and flows beautifully and whats more is relatively quick and easy to make!

Voorbereiding
Preparation

Bij aankoop van een van onze patronen ontvangt u 3 PDF-bestanden: een voor thuisprinters om op A4-papier af te drukken, een tweede voor A0-gebruikers om af te drukken in een printshop en een derde is voor mensen die een overheadprojector gebruiken. De volgende algemene introductietekst geeft een overzicht van hoe onze patroon-pdf's zijn opgezet en legt uit hoe je de A4-versie kunt afdrukken en hoe je de pagina's aan elkaar kunt plakken. A0-gebruikers kunnen bij hun printshop aangeven welke pagina's ze nodig hebben. Op de projector bestanden staan alle panden in dezelfde richting.
On purchasing any of our patterns you will receive 3 PDF files: one for home printers to print on A4 paper, a second at A0 is for printshop users and a third is for sewers who use an overhead projector. The following general introduction text provides an overview of how our pattern pdfs are set up and explains how to print out the A4 version and how to stick the pages together. A0 users should simply instruct their printshop which pages they require. Projector users will note that all pieces have the grain direction facing the same way.

All of our patterns follow the same set up as explained here. Each pattern starts with a cover page, an introduction, a body size chart, a design drawing, a pattern checklist and a colouring sheet.The pattern can be found on the last listing under the bookmarks tab.

Als je thuis print op een A4-printer, drukt u op het afdrukpictogram in het bovenste menu van de PDF. Uw afdrukdialoogvenster kan hiervan verschillen (rechts in het midden weergegeven), maar ik heb een paar knoppen gemarkeerd om het te verduidelijken. Om inkt te besparen kun je instellen dat het patroon in grijstinten wordt afgedrukt. Selecteer de pagina's die je wilt afdrukken, over het algemeen vanaf pagina 7 tot de laatste pagina. Zorg ervoor dat de schaal is ingesteld op 'ware grootte' of '100%' - NOOIT op 'passend op pagina'. Het werkelijke paginaformaat van de PDF is kleiner dan A4. Stel de oriëntatie in op Auto, ik vind dat dit het beste werkt omdat het dan de pdf op een A4-blad centreert.
If printing at home on an A4 printer press the print icon in the top menu of the PDF. Your print dialogue box may vary to this one (shown middle right), but I have highlighted a few buttons to take note of. To save ink you can set to print the pattern in greyscale. Select the pages to print which will usually be from page 7 until the final page. Make sure the scale is set to 'actual size' or ‘100%' - NEVER to 'fit to page’. The actual page size of the PDF is smaller than A4. Set the orientation to Auto, I find this works best as it will then centre the pdf on an A4 sheet.

Rond elke pagina zie je kleine zwarte driehoekjes met letters erin. Met een schaar en doorzichtig plakband bij de hand, kun je vervolgens om elke pagina uitknippen tot aan de driehoeken en vervolgens de letters in de zwarte driehoeken uitlijnen met de overeenkomende op de volgende pagina (A naar A, B naar B, enz.). Vervolgens kunt u het blad aan elkaar plakken. Een vel kan uit 16 of 20 pagina's bestaan, afhankelijk van het gekochte patroon. Sommige patronen bestaan uit één volledig vel (bijv. rokken met 16 pagina's), sommige uit twee vellen (bijv. jurken met 32 pagina’s).
Around each page you will see small black triangles with letters inside. With scissors and clear sticky tape at hand, you can then cut out every alternate page to the triangles and then align the letters in the black triangles with the matching ones on the following page (A to A, B to B, etc). You can then proceed to stick the sheet together. One sheet can consist of 16 or 20 pages depending on the pattern purchased. Some patterns consist of one full sheet (eg. skirts with 16 pages), some of two sheets (eg. dresses with 32 pages).

Deze stippellijnen bevatten de benodigde naadtoeslag voor elk stuk. De dunnere stippellijnen geven de uiteindelijke maat aan. Voor het gemak zijn alle namen van de stukken, samen met de draadrichting en handige instructies in de afzonderlijke patroondelen geplaatst, zodat u het overtollige papier veilig kunt weggooien (recycle). Let op dat sommige patronen ook een verklarend diagram kunnen bevatten op een van de pagina's die bewaard moeten worden. Als je de patroondelen op patroonpapier wilt overtrekken, moet je er aan denken alle markeringen te kopiëren (bijv. draadrichting, knipjes etc.).
Once you have printed out your pages lay them out on a flat surface (top left). Cut out to the triangle edge on alternate pages (top right). Then with clear sticky tape connect the triangles that correspond to each other (bottom left). Then cut out your pattern piece to the dashed lines (bottom right). These dashed lines include the necessary seam allowance for each piece. The thinner dotted lines indicate the finished size. For convenience all names of pieces, along with grain direction and helpful instructions have been placed inside individual pattern pieces, so you can safely throw away (please recycle) the excess paper. Note some patterns may also include an explanatory diagram on one of the pages that should also be kept.
To continue trace all the pattern pieces onto pattern paper, remembering to copy all the markings (eg. darts, piece to piece alignment lines etc).

Patroondelen/patternparts:
Voorpand, achterpand, tailleband, riemlusjes, zakdelen, zakbeleg delen en zakbiesjes. Optioneel de ruffle delen.
Frontpart, backpart, waistband, beltloops, pocketparts, pocketfacing parts and pocketbindings. Optional ruffle parts.

Voor het koord knip je een strook van 3cm hoog en ongeveer 120cm breed en voor de ceintuur een strook van 110cm lang en 6cm hoog.
Cut to size for the belt a strip of 110cm wide and 6cm high. For the drawstring cut a strip of 3cm high and 120cm width.

Afmeting/amount:
150cm (met ruffle 180cm)

- Eventueel een geweven label.

- Stretch vlieseline voor de riem
- Een stuk elastiek van 4cm hoog en de lengte van je taillewijdte

- 2cm buckle (optional).
- Stretch fusible interlining for the belt.

Goed om te weten
Ik ga in deze werkbeschrijving uit van het gebruik van een overlock machine. Mocht je daar niet over beschikken dan kun je een zig-zag steek gebruiken op een gewone naaimachine. Ik raad dan wel aan om er altijd een stretch stiksel naast te plaatsen. De naadtoeslag van de patronen is 1cm. Check wat de breedte instelling van je naad is op je lockmachine is. Is het 0,7cm dan kun je tijdens het stikken 3mm wegsnijden. De stretchnaden stik je met een stretchsteek instelling op de gewone naaimachine.

Good to know
For this tutorial an overlock machine was being used for sewing most of the garment. However, it is possible to use a regular sewing machine and sew with a zigzag stitch. I do recommend sewing an extra stretch stitch next to it to create clean lines. The seam allowance of the patterns is 1cm. Check the seam width setting of your overlock machine. If it is 0.7cm you can cut away 3mm while sewing. The stretch seams can be sewn using the stretch setting on a regular sewing machine.

Zakken

3a-d.
Eerst even een tip over hoe je de zakken uitgeknipt als je een print stof gebruikt.
First a tip on how to cut out the pockets when you are using a print.

3a.
Als je de rokdeel hebt geknipt leg er dan het voering zakdeel op en knip het stuk bij de zakingang uit.
Once you've cut the skirt part, place the pocketlining part on it and cut out the area above the pocket entrance.

3b.
Bewaar het uitgeknipte stukje.
Keep the cut out piece.

3c.
Leg het uitgeknipte stukje op het zakpatroondeel.
Place the cutout part on the pocket pattern part.

3d.
Leg nu het zakpatroondeel op de stof, zodanig dat het patroon doorloopt en knip uit.
Now place the pocket patternpiece on the fabric in a way the pattern continues and cut out.

3e.
Vouw de zakbiezen in de breedte dubbel en speld deze langs de zakopeningen. Rek ze daarbij wat uit.
Fold the pocket bindings in half widthwise and pin them along the pocketopening. Stretch them while doing so.

3f.
Stik de bies tegen de zakopening met een gewone steek.
Sew the binding to the pocketopening with a regular stitch on 1 cm from the edge.

3g.
Speld het zakbelegdeel tegen de zakopening goede kanten op elkaar en stik over de zichtbare stiklijn van de bies.
Pin the pocketfacing part to the pocketopening right sides together and sew over the visible stitchline from the binding.

3h.
Strijk de zakopening plat.
Iron the pocketopening flat.

3i.
Stik de zakopening door op ong.0,5cm van de rand.
Topstitch the pocket opening on appr. 0,5cm from the edge.

3j.
Speld het zakdeel tegen het zakbelegdeel met de goede kanten op elkaar en naai deze met met de overlockmachine.
Pin the pocketpart to the pocketfacing part right sides together and sew them with the overlocker.

3k.
Zet de boven-en zijkant van de zakken vast met een paar spelden.
Secure the top and side of the pockets with some pins.

4.
Tailleband met lusjes en riem
Waistband with loops and belt

4a.
Vouw de band in de breedte doormidden en stik op 1cm vanaf de rand met een stretchsteek. Dit is je midden achternaad.
Fold the waistband in half and sew on 1cm from the edge with a stretch stitch. This is now your back seam.

4b.
Stik eventueel een label aan de binnenkant.
Sew a label on the inside of the waistband.

4c.

1.
Maak eerst de lusjes. Vouw het lusje in de breedte dubbel en stik op 1cm van de rand.
First the loops. Fold the loop in half widthwise and sew on 1cm from the edge.

2.
Strijk de naad open.
Iron open the seam.

3.
Knip de naad kort af tot er een paar mm over is.
Cut the seam short untill there is a few mm left.

4.
Keer het lusje om. Een handig hulpje hierbij is de kromme pincet waar je ook garen in de naalden van je lockmachine rijgt.
Turn the loop. A handy aid here is the curved tweezers, you use to thread yarn into the needles of your overlock machine.

5.
Pers plat.
Press flat.

4d.
Leg de lusjes met de goede kant op de tailleband zoals aangegeven op het patroon.
Place the loops right side on the waistband as indicate on the pattern.

4e.
Stik de lusjes op de tailleband.
Stitch the loops on the waistband.

4f.
Vouw om en stik vast aan de onderkant van de tailleband.
Fold over and fasten at the bottom of the waistband.

4g.
Leg de uiteinden van het elastiek op elkaar en stik stevig vast.
Place both ends of the elastic on top of each other and topstitch.

4h.
Vouw de tailleband om het elastiek.
Fold the waistband over the elastic.

4i.
Stik de onderkant van de tailleband dicht.
Close the bottom of the waistband.

4j.
Strijk de versteviging op de achterkant van het ceintuur deel. Vouw de strook voor de ceintuur in de breedte dubbel en stik op 1cm van de rand.
Iron on the fusible interlining on the back of the belt piece. Fold the strip of fabric for the belt in half widthwise and sew on 1cm from the edge.

4k.
Pers de naad open. De naad komt straks aan de achterkant van de ceintuur.
Press open the seam. The seam will be at the back of the belt.

4l.
Knip de naad kort af. Naai het uiteinde dicht.
Cut the seam short. Sew a seam at the short end.

4m.
Knip de naad en hoekjes kort af.
Cut the seam and corners.

4n.
Keer de ceintuur binnenste buiten. Ook hier kun je weer gebruik maken van het pincet.
Turn the belt inside out. Again you can use the tweezers

4o.
Stik de ceintuur door op 0,5cm van de rand.
Topstich the belt on 0,5cm from the edge.

4p.
Vouw het open uiteinde om het staafje van de gesp en zet vast met de hand.
Fold the open end around the bar of the buckle and fasten by hand.

5.
Zijnaden, tailleband aanzetten en zoom
Sideseams, attach waistband and hem

5a.
Speld en stik de zijnaden dicht met de overlockmachine.
Pin and sew the sideseams with the overlockmachine.

5b.
Strijk de naden naar het achterpand.
Iron the seams towards the back.

5c.
Geef het midden van de voor-en achterkant van de tailleband en van het voor-en achterpand aan met een speld.
Indicate the middle of the front and back of the waistband and the middle of the front and back of the skirt.

5d.
Speld en stik nu de tailleband tegen de rok met de overlockmachine, goede kanten op elkaar.
Pin and sew the waistband to the skirt with the overlockmachine right sides together.

5e.
De band als deze is aangezet.
The waistband when attached.

5f.
Overlock de onderrand van de rok. Strijk en speld de zoom.
Overlock the edge of the skirt. Press and pin the hem.

5g.
Stik deze met een gewone steek op je naaimachine vast. Je rok is nu klaar!
Sew the hem with a regular sewing machine. Your dress is now finished.

Nu de jurk netjes strijken en ze is klaar! Take a twirl!
Give your dress a final press and she's finished! Take a twirl!

6.
Variatie met ruffle
Variation with ruffle

6a.
Knip 2 ruffle delen aan de vouw. Als je niet genoeg stof hebt, knip dan 4 delen met naad.
Cut 2 ruffle pieces on fold. Of you don't have enough fabric. Cut 4 pieces with seam allowance.

6b.
Werk de randen van de ruffle delen af met de overlockmachine. Speld en stik de zijnaden (en eventueel de naden voor en achter). Strijk de naden open.
Finish the edges of the ruffle parts with the overlock machine. Pin and stitch the side seams (and possibly the front and back seams). Iron the seams open.

6c.
Werk de onderrand af met de overlockmachine op de smalste setting.
Finish the bottom edge with the overlock machine on the narrowest setting.

6d.
Strijk de overlock rand om en speld vast.
Fold over the overlock edge, iron and pin.

6e.
Stik deze met een gewone steek op je naaimachine vast.
Sew the hem with a regular sewing machine.

6f.
Geef het midden van de voor-en achterkant van de ruffle en het midden van de onderkant van het voor-en achterpand aan met een speld. Speld en stik nu de ruffle tegen de rok, goede kanten op elkaar.
Indicate the middle of the front and back of the ruffle and the middle of the front and back bottom edge of the skirt. Pin and sew the ruffle to the skirt, right sides together.

6g.
De drawstring ceintuur:
Vouw de strook stof voor het koord dubbel en stik op 1cm van de rand.
The drawstring belt:
Fold the strip of fabric for the draw string over right sides together and sew on 1cm from the edge. Cut the seam away until you are left with a few mm seam.

Knip de naad kort af tot je een paar mm overhoudt.

6i.
Bevestig een dubbele draad met een naald met ronde punt of een veiligheidsspeldje aan een uiteinde.
Attach a double thread with a round tip needle or a small safetypin toe one end of the string.

6j.
Steek de naald of veigheidspeld in de tunnel en rijg het er doorheen tot je bij de andere opening uitkomt.
Tuck the needle or safetypin inside the tube and feed it through to the other opening.

6k.
Strijk het koord plat en bevestig er eventueel wat kralen aan voor je een knoopje legt in beide uiteinden.
Iron the drawstring flat and attach some beads on it before you tie a knot in both ends.

Nu de jurk netjes strijken en ze is klaar! Take a twirl!
Give your dress a final press and she's finished! Take a twirl!

7.
Variatie met naad (voor diagonale strepen)

Als je de rok wilt maken in een digonale streep hou dan rekening met het volgende:

6a.
Knip het voor-en achterpand met naad. Deze moet je aantekenen aan het patroon. Knip de delen in spiegelbeeld van elkaar. Leg het patroondeel op 45 graden op de stof.
Cut the front and back pieces with seam. You have to add this to the pattern. Cut the parts in mirror image from each other. Place the pattern piece on the fabric at 45 degrees.

6b.
Speld elk streepje individueel. Je kunt deze eventueel ook rijgen. De stof mag tijdens het naaien namelijk niet verschuiven.
Pin each stripe individually. You can also baste these if necessary. The fabric must not shift during sewing.

6c.
Werk de randen af met een overlocksteek. Naai de naad met een gewone steek. Vouw de naad open en check of alle strepen netjes doorlopen. Stik dan de naad nog eens met een stretchsteek.
Finish the edges with an overlock stitch. Sew the seam with a regular stitch. Unfold the seam and check that all stripes match. Then topstitch the seam again with a stretch stitch.

6d.
Een mooi doorlopende streep.

Laat ook de streep doorlopen in de zak. In stap 3a-3d zie je hoe je dat doet.

6f.
Knip de band in horizontale strepen.
Volg voor de rest van de rok alle stappen vanaf het begin.
Cut the band in horizontal stripes. Follow for the rest of the skirt all steps from the beginning.
